Dragons Den is known for training athletes, but we also train adults who simply want to be stronger, fitter and harder to break. For them, high intensity interval training, or HIIT, is one of the most efficient ways to train. If you have been searching for adult HIIT classes in Geneva and wondering whether it is for you, here is what to expect.
What HIIT actually is
HIIT alternates short periods of hard work with periods of rest or easier work. A block might be forty seconds of effort and twenty seconds of rest, repeated across several exercises. The intensity is relative to you. Hard for a former college athlete and hard for someone returning after ten years away from the gym look completely different, and both count.
A well-run class mixes strength movements, such as squats, presses, rows and carries, with conditioning, such as sled pushes, bike or rower intervals and medicine ball work. It should feel challenging. It should not feel reckless.
Why adults like it
- It is time efficient. A focused hour covers strength and conditioning in one session.
- It is coached. Someone is watching your form and adjusting the workout to you, which is the biggest difference from working out alone.
- It builds useful fitness. Carrying, pushing, pulling, getting up off the floor. The things life actually asks of you.
- The group keeps you consistent. It is much harder to skip when people expect you.
“I am not in shape enough for that”
This is the most common thing we hear, and it has the logic backwards. The class is how you get in shape. Every movement can be scaled: lighter loads, fewer reps, lower impact options, longer rest. A good coach will ask about injuries and training history before your first session and will steer you away from anything that does not suit you yet. If you have a medical condition or have been inactive for a long time, check with your doctor before starting any new exercise program.
What a first class looks like
- Arrive a few minutes early so the coach can learn your background and any limitations
- A guided warm-up that prepares the joints and raises the heart rate gradually
- A walkthrough of each movement with options for different levels
- The main work: intervals at your own pace, with coaching throughout
- A cooldown and a quick conversation about how it felt
Bring water, wear shoes you can move sideways in, and expect to be a little sore the next day or two. That fades as your body adapts.
How often should adults do HIIT?
Two to three sessions a week is a strong place to be for most adults. HIIT is demanding, and more is not always better. On the other days, walk, stretch, or do easier strength work. If sleep is suffering or you feel run down, pull back for a week. Consistency over months matters far more than any single hard week.
HIIT versus personal training
Group classes are the best value and bring energy and accountability. Personal training makes sense if you have a specific goal, an injury history that needs individual attention, or a schedule that does not fit class times. Plenty of people do both. We will compare the two in more detail in our next post.

If you would rather try it before committing, a single drop-in class can be booked online. Questions first? Send us a note and a coach will get back to you.
